The
following information is of particular relevance to GPs,
Primary Health Care Nurses and other health care providers

Paracetamol Poisoning
Prevention Follow on Project
NBPH and PHS-NMDHB are keen to
invite past and new members help develop the pilot
project further. This follows on from a pilot
paracetamol poisoning prevention programme conducted in
Nelson/Tasman as part of national pilot study lead by
Safekids. We would like to take this opportunity to
thank Safekids, the staff from the two general practices
that participated in pilot, and those who were involved
in the initial project team.
We need motivated and
capable/practical people from a wide range of
backgrounds, (Registered Nurses, General Practitioners,
Pharmacists, Reception staff, Health Promotion,
Community health and social service workers) with
knowledge and experience, to discuss, design and
implement methods of improving safety around paracetamol
safety issues identified in pilot project including
purchase, prescribing/dispensing, administration and
storage.
Does anyone have ideas or
experience that they could bring to the
group?
A planning meeting will be
held on April 1st at 10 am at Wakapuaka room - Front
Entrance NBPH. 20 New St,
Nelson
We are requesting for those
interested in developing a project to contact

Skin Cancer Collegiate Association
of New Zealand
(SCCANZ)
(Attention
GPs)
There is a move within New Zealand
to reduce the number of operations for skin cancer
performed in public hospitals and devolve much of the
management of skin cancer to primary care via
PHOs.
All this has meant that there is
the need for a nationwide body to represent primary care
practitioners who wish to become involved in the
management of skin cancer, to provide upskilling ongoing
education, and peer support. To this end the
SCCANZ has been
created.

IT Takes A
Village Supporting your clients wellbeing
beyond the walls of your clinic Wednesday 8th April
2009 6-8pm Victory Community Centre, Totara
Street, Nelson
More and more, the evidence shows that
the best health outcomes are achieved when a holistic
view of health is taken, biomedical as well as
psychosocial. We have often heard from Primary Health
Care Nurses that there is never enough time for
networking with the community providers who could
potentially support their clients beyond the walls of
their general practices.
This will be a perfect opportunity to
meet these providers, collect resources, hear about how
they may be able to support your clients out in the
community and meet with other providers working in
Primary Health Care.
