Introducing Ruth and Bobbie
New Breast Feeding Advocate and Immunisation Facilitator joins Nelson Bays Primary Health

Ruth Brodbeck is now part of the Be Well Community Nutrition Team and employed as the Breastfeeding Advocate. Ruth has a background in midwifery and childbirth education and assists the team in implementing the Breastfeeding Action Plan in Nelson/Tasman.
Ruth is coordinating the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor programme Mum4Mum/Whaea ki te Whaea with Family Start in Nelson and Motueka Family Service Centre in Motueka.

Bobbie Hutton believes strongly that all children should be assisted to fight vaccine preventable disease by being immunised. "In my 30 years of nursing I have witnessed first hand the impact of diseases that could have been prevented by immunisation". In her new role Bobbie will be providing information and support to develop immunisation services in the area, working closely with practices, vaccinators and interested community groups to profile and create safe immunisation opportunities for all ages.

"ImmPHO", a monthly update of immunisation specific information for providers and promoters of immunisation services is planned to be released in December 2009. You can contact Bobbie on 5391660 for more information.

Dump Campaign Update
The Disposal of Unwanted Medicine Through Pharmacies enters its second week.

Home Safety Task Group being formed
Government and Community Groups are working together to make Nelson Bays a safer place to live, play and work. Earlier this year, seven priority safety themes were identified in our community. Read more here.

Chronic Fatigue ME Support Group
Nelson Bays ME/Chronic fatigue support group has 238 members,
a surprising number for our region. Support group meetings are held regularly.

Nelson La Leche League
Breastfeeding information and support for pregnant/breastfeeding mothers and their families. Every 2nd Tuesday of the month at Victory Community Centre and the last Tuesday of the month at Tahunanui Community Centre.

Penny Molnar, is available to assist GPs and Practice Nurses with accessing services and resources that fall outside their areas of work.
Andrea Kelly-Carmody, Be Well Support Worker is also at the Centre Wednesday to Fridays.
