The
following information is of particular relevance to GPs,
Primary Health Care Nurses and other health care providers
throughout the region.

A report
commissioned by Nelson Marlborough District Health Board
(NMDHB), "The Mental Health Populations of Need
Report" , identifies that just under an
estimated 27,000
people in Nelson Marlborough will experience some form of
mild to severe mental illness over a twelve
month period.
Over the next six weeks NMDHB
is seeking your views and opinions through written
submissions, or attendance at a number of key
stakeholder and public forums. NMDHB has developed
‘draft’ documents to assist people to gain a better
understanding of mental health services within Nelson
and Marlborough, and will also inform the development of
the Mental Health Action Plan.
Submissions close on the 8th
July 2008.

contributed significantly to this report with the
completion of the Primary Care Mental Health
Plan.

The Ministry of Health is
pleased to announce a two-day hui for all those who are
involved with or interested in health promotion in
Primary Health Organisations (PHOs ). NBPH staff
look forward to attending and contributing to this hui
and reporting back.
The hui has an
exciting programme and promises to:
- Provide an outline on
relevant workforce development issues and progress
since the Health Promotion in PHOs Hui held in
2006;
- Discuss what is a “health
promoting approach”; what is working (success stories,
strengths and possibilities), what can be shared; and,
what’s happening with smaller, Maori and rural
PHOs;
- Provide an update on
relevant national projects;
- Discuss workforce
development issues relating to health promotion in
PHOs (eg, national co-ordination, leadership and
networking, national issues around
competencies and training); and
- Aim to develop
recommendations for continued progress.

Cardio Vascular Risk
Assessment for
Nurses
Below are links to a presentation
from the
recent “Getting the most for your patient – CVD
and Diabetes Capability Assessment” seminar held
by the Heart Foundation in March this year. This is
the presentation from Gabrielle Gallagher,
